Indonesia to Launch Major School Renovation Program on National Education Day 2025

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In a landmark initiative to improve the country’s education infrastructure, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is set to launch one of its priority programs to construct and renovate 10,440 schools across Indonesia. The launch coincides with the commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2025.
According to a statement issued by the ministry on Friday, the program will be officially inaugurated by Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti and President Prabowo Subianto in a joint ceremony. The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance the quality of education through improved learning environments.
Minister Mu’ti is scheduled to attend the Hardiknas commemoration ceremony at Regina Pacis School in Bogor, West Java, before participating in a series of related activities. President Prabowo, meanwhile, will attend the main commemoration event and officially launch the Quick Win Best Results Program (PHTC) in the education sector at Cimahpar 5 Elementary School in Bogor.
This year’s National Education Day carries the theme “Universal Participation Realizes Quality Education for All,” reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education.
Minister Mu’ti had first announced the plan on Wednesday, April 30, following a limited cabinet meeting led by President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. “To commemorate National Education Day, we will launch one of the president’s priority programs, namely, school construction. We plan to build and renovate 10,440 schools this year,” Mu’ti said.
The program aims to reach its target by the end of 2025, supported by a total budget of approximately Rp16.9 trillion (US$983 million). In addition to infrastructure development, the president will also launch a direct assistance transfer program for honorary teachers, providing monthly aid of Rp300,000 (US$17.46).
Furthermore, the government will offer educational funding assistance of Rp3 million (US$174) per semester for teachers who have not yet completed a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent Diploma-level qualification.
“The figure will be detailed by the president during the program’s launch in Bogor as part of the National Education Day commemoration,” Minister Mu’ti added.
The launch of these programs underscores the government’s dedication to strengthening human capital development through improved access to quality education across the archipelago.
