Iran Commemorates Martyrdom Anniversary of General Qassem Soleimani

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: On Thursday, ceremonies were held across Iran to honor the martyrdom anniversary of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the esteemed commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). General Soleimani was assassinated in a drone strike near Baghdad, Iraq, on January 3, 2020.

Prominent events took place in cities throughout the country, including the capital, Tehran. At the Grand Mosalla Mosque, crowds gathered to pay tribute to General Soleimani and other martyrs who fought against terrorism and defended holy sites in the West Asia region. Among the attendees were high-ranking military officials, state leaders, and members of the public, all united in honoring the legacy of Soleimani and his compatriots.

Participants in Tehran carried images of Hajj Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a senior commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) who was also martyred in the U.S. strike. The event featured pictures of other resistance leaders, including Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Hamas figures Ismail Haniyeh and Yayha Sinwar, assassinated by Israeli forces in recent months. Yemen’s Ambassador to Tehran, Ibrahim Mohammad al-Deilami, delivered a speech emphasizing the enduring resolve of the Resistance Axis in confronting aggression. He praised Iran’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the broader resistance movement in the region.

Meanwhile, a parallel ceremony was held in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf. Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini, the Supreme Leader’s Representative to Iraq, addressed attendees, underscoring the importance of continuing the path of those who sacrificed their lives to uphold the dignity of the Islamic Ummah. He also condemned the Israeli regime for its crimes in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, calling for accountability over civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction.

These events reflect the enduring significance of General Soleimani’s legacy and the unified determination of the Resistance Axis to confront ongoing challenges in the region.
