Iran’s Foreign Minister Meets UN Secretary-General to Discuss Regional and International Developments

Cascais, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, held a crucial meeting in Cascais, Portugal, on Tuesday evening, where they discussed pressing regional and international issues, including the ongoing crises in Gaza and Lebanon.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 10th meeting of the World Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations of the United Nations. Araghchi and Guterres exchanged views on the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by Israel’s military actions, as well as the situation in Lebanon, which remains tense.

During their discussion, Minister Araghchi underscored the importance of dialogue and international cooperation in addressing global challenges. He highlighted Iran’s role in promoting dialogue among civilizations and cultures, aiming to foster peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

Araghchi also briefed the UN Secretary-General on his recent diplomatic efforts in the region, including consultations with neighboring countries to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon. He described the humanitarian situation as “extremely dire” and called for urgent international intervention to end the violence and prevent further loss of life.

Secretary-General Guterres expressed his grave concern over the escalating situation in West Asia, particularly in Gaza and Lebanon. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to working towards a ceasefire in both regions, with hopes for a resolution that would alleviate the suffering of civilians and pave the way for lasting peace.

The discussions reflect the ongoing international efforts to address the humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon, with both officials emphasizing the need for urgent diplomatic action to end the violence and bring stability to the region.
