London hosts 5th round of Uzbekistan – British political consultations
London, The Gulf Observer: London hosted the fifth round of political consultations between Uzbekistan and the UK.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bobur Usmanov led the Uzbekistan delegation. The British side was represented by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Leo Docherty.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for developing bilateral cooperation and interaction within international organizations.
Views were exchanged on enhancing the political dialogue and filling the common agenda with practical content. The importance of raising political consultations to a strategic dialogue between foreign ministers was noted.
Issues of building up trade and economic ties occupied an essential place in the negotiations. The importance of intensifying direct contact between the two countries’ business circles, including within the framework of the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council, was noted.
A preliminary agreement was reached on developing joint investment projects, increasing trade volumes, and expanding exports from Uzbekistan to the UK.
The readiness of the parties to enhance cultural and humanitarian collaboration, deepen cooperation in the scientific field, and implement joint projects in preschool, school, higher, and vocational education was confirmed.
Certain aspects of regional and international issues were also considered.
An agreement was reached to hold the next round of political consultations in 2024 in Tashkent.
