Myanmar Prime Minister Extends New Year Greetings, Vows Swift Recovery and Democratic Progress

Nay Pyi Taw, The Gulf Observer: Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing, extended his heartfelt New Year greetings to mark the beginning of 1387 Myanmar Era. In his official message, he conveyed warm wishes to the people of Myanmar and the global community, expressing hopes for peace, health, and resilience in the face of adversity.
“On this auspicious occasion of Myanmar New Year, making the transition to the year 1387 of the Myanmar Era, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all global people including entire ethnic national people who inhabit the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to be free from potential harms and dangers and may they all enjoy physical and mental well-being,” the Senior General stated.
Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, he acknowledged the severe impact of Typhoon Yagi in September and the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck on 28 March. These calamities, he said, caused significant loss of life and property across various regions of the country. The Prime Minister extended his deep appreciation to both local and international rescue teams, as well as donors, who supported emergency response and relief efforts.
“We have decided to carry out reconstruction and rehabilitation in the quake-affected areas as quickly as possible,” he said, noting that the government is committed to restoring normalcy through collective efforts.
In his message, the Senior General reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing a genuine, disciplined multiparty democratic system. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming general election, scheduled for December, calling on all citizens to cooperate in ensuring a successful and credible democratic process.
“Our government is striving to serve the interests of the State and all citizens,” he said. “I would like to request the people to cooperate with the government to hold the election successfully if they wish to enjoy the multiparty democratic system truly.”
He also underscored key national priorities, including the rehabilitation of government infrastructure, boosting agricultural and livestock production, and supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Education was highlighted as a fundamental pillar for national development, with an appeal to ensure that all school-age children can access learning opportunities in the coming academic year.
The Senior General reiterated the importance of peace and stability in achieving national development and called for inclusive political dialogue to resolve ongoing conflicts. “I believe that, as all are our national brethren, they will cooperate with the government through the Union spirit,” he said.
Concluding his message, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing called for unity and collective effort as the nation embarks on a new year. “We have faced various disasters, difficulties, and challenges in the old year, and we learned valuable lessons from these. As we enter the New Year with fresh perspectives and renewed vision, I extend my New Year greetings to all the ethnic national people, and let us all citizens of the nation work together and actively participate in the continued journey of initiating a multiparty democracy.”
