Pakistan, Azerbaijan Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in diverse fields of mutual interest, including trade and investment, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.
During a telephone conversation, the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and reiterated their resolve to deepen the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries.
According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the discussion was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, with both leaders exchanging greetings and emphasizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his best wishes to President Aliyev for the successful convening of the upcoming World Urban Forum 2026 scheduled to be held in Baku next week. He expressed confidence that the forum, under Azerbaijan’s leadership, would provide an important platform for advancing the global urban development agenda.
The prime minister regretted that pressing engagements would prevent his personal participation in the forum, but assured that Pakistan would be represented at an appropriate level.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments of mutual concern, particularly ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East.
President Aliyev appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, describing them as reflective of the international community’s trust and confidence in Pakistan’s leadership.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and expressed anticipation for an in-person meeting later this year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also renewed his cordial invitation to President Ilham Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at the earliest convenience.
