President Joko Widodo Inaugurates 27 Road Sections in East Nusa Tenggara
Kupang, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially launched 27 road sections constructed under the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads (IJD) program on Tuesday in Naioni village, Manulai II sub-district, Kupang city, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province.
In his remarks, President Widodo stated, “By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (in the name of God), the road repair and construction in NTT under the IJD program, which cost Rp737 billion (approximately US$48.4 million), is inaugurated.”
The newly inaugurated roads, which began construction in 2023, collectively span 217 kilometers and are distributed across 20 districts in NTT, including a notable section in Naioni village.
Emphasizing the importance of road infrastructure for local communities, President Widodo reiterated the government’s commitment to ongoing development in this sector. He highlighted that well-constructed roads enhance the transportation of people, goods, and logistics, thus facilitating economic growth and connectivity within the region.
“I hope that the budget of Rp737 billion allocated for road construction will suffice to repair all road sections in the province, like the one in Naioni village. As we can see, there are no holes on this smooth road, and the community can use it,” he remarked.
President Widodo is currently on a two-day working visit to East Nusa Tenggara. Following the inauguration of the IJD road in Kupang on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, he will open the Temef Dam in Timor Tengah Selatan district and the Napan cross-border post in Timor Tengah Utara district.
Additionally, the President is scheduled to visit Alor and West Sumba districts on Sumba Island, where he will spend the night in Kupang city before continuing his agenda the next day, as per information from the Presidential Secretariat.
