President Mirziyoyev Attends Public Celebration in Andijan, Announces New City Named After Babur

Andijan, The Gulf Observer: President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a public celebration at the “Yangi O‘zbekiston” Park in Andijan, where he engaged with youth, community members, and representatives of various nationalities, and announced the creation of a new city named in honor of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur.

During his conversation with young people, the President emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to youth development, highlighting education, employment, and sports as central pillars of state policy. “The youth of Uzbekistan are talented and capable. But when does talent flourish? When there is effort,” he said. “To be happy tomorrow, you must lay the foundation today.”

President Mirziyoyev also met with representatives of different ethnic communities, reaffirming that peace and interethnic harmony remain one of the country’s greatest assets. A festive concert followed at the park’s amphitheater, where the President addressed the gathering, expressing his appreciation for the region’s progress and resilience.

“The primary goal of the reforms in New Uzbekistan is to ensure the rights, interests, and dignity of every individual,” he noted. “Andijan exemplifies these principles with significant advancements in industry, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and improved living conditions across mahallas and communities.”

A key highlight of the event was the President’s announcement of the proposal to name the newly constructed city after Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, a prominent figure in Uzbek and world history. The initiative was warmly welcomed by local residents. “Babur Mirzo was a great patron of science, culture, and literature. Naming the city after him will symbolically fulfill the dream of our great ancestor,” President Mirziyoyev stated.

The upcoming city of Babur will feature a large-scale educational and cultural cluster, including kindergartens, schools, a university, a museum, a library, and an IT park. The university will host a state-of-the-art international sports complex. A new monument to Babur will be erected at the highest point of “Yangi O‘zbekiston” Park.

The development of the city will be backed by a dedicated program with $250 million in allocated funding. The city is envisioned as a spiritual and cultural center that embodies national values, promotes innovation, and strengthens Uzbekistan’s historical and modern identity.

Concluding his visit, President Mirziyoyev extended his congratulations to all cultural and art professionals on the occasion of their professional holiday, celebrated annually on April 15.
