Puan Maharani supports for enhancement of Indonesia-Japan cooperation

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani voiced support for intensifying cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in various fields in the future.

“As speaker of DPR, I continue to support efforts to increase the relations between Indonesia and Japan, so that they are more beneficial for the people of both countries,” she noted in a statement received here.

Maharani made the statement at a commemoration event of Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day Anniversary and the 78th Anniversary of the Indonesian Military (TNI) at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday.

Maharani underlined that relations between Indonesia and Japan have existed since a long time. Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Japan have been established for 65 years.

“Our countries have a long historical relationship, and history has recorded that Indonesia’s friendship with Japan is not only maintained in good times but also in difficult times. That is a characteristic of good friendship,” she remarked.

To this end, she invited Indonesians in Japan to support the country in improving people-to-people contact that is an important pillar of the relations between Indonesia and Japan so far.

“The people of the two countries have known each other very well, so it is our duty to fulfill the people’s wishes by bolstering relations between the two countries that are oriented towards the interests of their people or people-oriented relations,” she remarked.

She noted that with increasingly strong relations between Indonesia and Japan, the two countries have the opportunity to become a driving force for Asia’s economic progress in the future.

Maharani further noted that involvement of the youth is also highly needed, as it could support the enhancement of cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in the fields of education and culture.

“I see that the foundation of relations between Indonesia and Japan is really solid. This will be a basis to deepen relations in the future,” she stated.
