Qatar Airways Cargo Transports 42 Million Roses

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Qatar Airways Cargo, the world’s leading air cargo carrier, has successfully transported a record 2,800 tonnes of flowers, equivalent to 42 million fresh-cut red roses, from Kenya and South America during the peak season.

The carrier moved nearly 1,600 tonnes of red roses from Nairobi, Kenya, through its scheduled flights and charter services. Additionally, Qatar Airways Cargo facilitated the transport of nearly 1,200 tonnes from South America, including flowers from Bogota, Colombia, and Quito, Ecuador, to key global markets including Amsterdam, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.

In response to the surge in demand during the peak season, Qatar Airways Cargo operated nine additional Boeing 777 freighter charters from Nairobi and ten from Quito, supplementing its regular passenger and cargo flights. These additional flights were crucial in meeting the heightened demand for flower exports.

Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways, commented on the success of Kenya and South America’s floriculture sectors, stating, “Both Kenya and South America’s floriculture sectors are success stories that must be celebrated and supported. These countries are renowned for producing high-quality, fresh-cut roses, and we are proud to play a role in sharing this beautiful product with the world while supporting the local economies.”

Qatar Airways Cargo’s commitment to socio-economic development is evident in its increased capacity to support these regions. The additional charter freighters have helped connect the floriculture sectors in Kenya, Bogota, and Quito to key markets worldwide through Qatar Airways’ extensive network of over 170 passenger and 60 freighter destinations.

Drusch added, “February is a critical time for the floriculture industry, and our services are essential in ensuring timely delivery to reward the hardworking farm workers, farmers, and entrepreneurs driving this thriving sector.”

Using its state-of-the-art Boeing 777 freighters, Qatar Airways Cargo ensures on-time delivery and maintains a seamless cool chain through its innovative Fresh product. This service guarantees that flowers are transported under optimal conditions, arriving fresh and on time at their global destinations.
