South Korea, US, Japan hold missile defense drills

Seoul, The Gulf Observer: The naval forces of South Korea, United States, and Japan conducted a joint missile defense exercise in the international waters of the East Sea on Sunday. This exercise came in response to North Korea’s recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

According to the South Korean Navy, as reported by the South Korean News Agency (YONHAP), the exercises featured three Aegis-equipped destroyers. The South Korean “ROKS Yulgok Yi I,” the American “USS John Finn,” and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force’s JS Maya.

It was clarified that the exercises served as an opportunity to enhance the three countries military response capabilities against ballistic missiles and to improve their security cooperation.
