Turkmen Deputy FM holds meeting with UNFPA Gender Advisor
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Today, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova met with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Gender Advisor Leyla Sharafi, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Forum “Dialogue-Guarantee of Peace”.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized that Turkmenistan is pursuing an active gender policy aimed at strengthening the principles of equal participation of women in all spheres of social and political life.
Turkmenistan’s commitment to its obligations under the Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women of 1996 and its Optional Protocol of 2009 was stated.
An exchange of views took place on continuing further close cooperation with UNFPA in the field of promoting gender equality, reproductive health and other areas, as well as improving legislation in this area.
