Turkmenistan, European Union Hold 18th Human Rights Dialogue to Deepen Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The 18th Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Monday, bringing together representatives of relevant government institutions and EU officials to discuss key human rights issues and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Myahri Byashimova, and the Head of the Central Asia Division of the European External Action Service, Dietmar Krissler, who delivered opening remarks highlighting the importance of continued engagement on human rights matters.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on a broad range of issues of mutual interest, including the enhancement of national legislation, strengthening the rule of law, promoting gender equality, and safeguarding fundamental human rights and freedoms.
The Turkmen delegation briefed participants on ongoing efforts to implement national human rights programmes and action plans, improve the legal framework, support the development of democratic institutions, and expand international cooperation in the field of human rights.
European Union representatives outlined the key provisions of the EU’s Gender Equality Strategy presented in March 2026, underscoring the importance of international collaboration and the exchange of best practices to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all.
The dialogue also focused on humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union, with both parties emphasizing the value of regular and constructive engagement based on mutual respect and equal partnership.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Turkmenistan and the European Union reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the human rights dialogue and further strengthening cooperation in areas of shared interest.
