Turkmenistan, Iran Review Bilateral Cooperation and Humanitarian Ties in High-Level Call

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Senior officials from Turkmenistan and Iran held a telephone conversation on April 20, 2026, to review the current state of bilateral relations and discuss avenues for further strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

The discussion took place between Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh.

During the call, both sides addressed a wide range of issues related to the implementation of agreements reached at the 18th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, held in Tehran on May 19–20, 2025. They also exchanged views on the current progress and future prospects of bilateral engagement.

The officials emphasized that cultural and humanitarian cooperation remains a priority pillar of relations between the two neighboring countries, reflecting their longstanding ties and shared values.

Farzaneh Sadegh expressed sincere appreciation to the leadership of Turkmenistan, including the President and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, for the humanitarian assistance dispatched on March 14, 2026. The aid, delivered through the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was extended to the people of Iran, particularly children, as a gesture of friendship and brotherhood.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and enhancing coordination in economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains, underscoring the importance of sustained dialogue and partnership for regional stability and development.
