Uzbekistan Announces Extensive Social Support Measures Ahead of Qurbon Hayit

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a package of socio-economic support proposals aimed at assisting vulnerable segments of the population ahead of Qurbon Hayit (Eid al-Adha), reaffirming Uzbekistan’s commitment to social welfare, compassion, and solidarity.
During the presentation, reports were delivered by the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, the National Agency for Social Protection, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan, and the Waqf Public Charitable Foundation regarding large-scale charitable and welfare initiatives planned in connection with the sacred holiday.
According to the proposals, the government plans to finance surgical operations for 10,000 children suffering from severe illnesses and conditions leading to disability. Medical examinations, treatment, and surgeries will also be provided for 2,300 patients diagnosed with oncological, hematological, and oncohematological diseases, while at least 350 liver and kidney transplant operations are scheduled to be carried out.
Special attention will be directed toward socially vulnerable children. Authorities plan to transfer 200 US dollars to the savings accounts of more than 8,000 orphans, children deprived of parental care, and children of servicemen who lost their lives defending the country’s borders.
The initiatives also include reconstruction, repair, or construction of modern ablution facilities in 500 mosques, alongside improvement works at cemeteries across local communities to enhance convenience for citizens during the holiday period.
In addition, food packages will be distributed to families receiving state support, elderly citizens living alone, and persons with disabilities requiring outside care.
The measures are set to be financed through 690 billion Uzbek soums allocated to the Waqf Public Charitable Foundation. Charity meals for socially vulnerable groups and qurban sacrifices at pilgrimage sites and religious educational institutions are also planned as part of the holiday initiatives.
President Mirziyoyev stressed that all assistance measures, including support for those in need, medical treatment for patients, and aid for children, must be implemented transparently and in a targeted manner, while issuing relevant instructions to responsible officials.
