Trump Attacks Biden Administration’s Economic Record Ahead of Harris’ Policy Speech
Asheville, The Gulf Observer: Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing critique of the Biden administration’s economic policies just days before Vice President Kamala Harris is set to unveil her plan to tackle rising living costs in her first major policy address as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
In a speech delivered on Wednesday in Asheville, North Carolina, Trump claimed that if Harris were elected, her policies would lead to another Great Depression. He promised that under his leadership, wages would rise and he would “make America affordable again.”
“Under Kamala Harris and crooked Joe Biden, the American Dream is dead. You don’t hear about the American Dream anymore — it’s dead,” Trump declared, accusing the current administration of causing severe inflation, undermining the middle class, and damaging the financial stability of millions of American families.
While Trump acknowledged that inflation, a significant issue in the current campaign, was “starting to maybe get under control,” he criticized Harris for what he described as her failure to manage the economy effectively. He claimed that Harris “has crackled as the American economy has burned,” potentially referring to her laugh, which he has previously mocked.
Despite his sharp rhetoric, Trump’s speech was light on specific policy details. He did, however, promise that if reelected, he would issue an executive order in his second term directing officials to “use every tool and authority at their disposal” to combat inflation. He also made a commitment to reduce energy costs by half within 12 to 18 months, though he appeared to backtrack on this pledge later in his remarks.
Polls indicate that Harris is leading or tied with Trump in most battleground states, and her recent rise in popularity has left Trump scrambling to regain momentum. Nevertheless, Trump’s focus on personal attacks, including repeatedly mispronouncing Harris’ name and labeling her as an “incompetent socialist lunatic,” has raised concerns among Republicans who worry that such tactics may alienate moderate voters.
Harris is expected to outline her plan to address the cost of living crisis in a much-anticipated speech on Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her proposals are expected to focus on reducing healthcare, housing, and grocery costs for middle-class families, as well as addressing corporate price gouging.
