Qatar Participates in Arab Forum for Sustainable Development in Beirut

Beirut, The Gulf Observer: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, is participating in the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, being held in Beirut, Lebanon, from April 14 to 16, 2025. The forum is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and brings together ministers, senior officials from Arab countries, and representatives of UN agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

Her Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, is leading the Qatari delegation to the high-level forum, which serves as a regional platform to advance sustainable development and prepare for the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to be hosted by Doha in November 2025.

Qatar’s active participation reflects its steadfast commitment to the principles of inclusive and equitable development, and its determination to strengthen joint Arab cooperation in addressing the region’s pressing socio-economic challenges.

On the sidelines of the forum, HE Minister Buthaina Al Nuaimi held bilateral meetings with several Arab counterparts to enhance cooperation in the social sector. During her meeting with HE Haneen Al Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Lebanon, both sides explored opportunities for collaboration and experience-sharing in areas such as protection of vulnerable groups, crisis response, women’s empowerment, and support for sustainable development.

Her Excellency also met with HE Hind Kabawat, Minister of Social Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic. The discussions focused on enhancing joint efforts in developing social protection policies, promoting economic empowerment for marginalized communities, and bolstering the resilience of Arab societies in the face of common development challenges.

Qatar’s participation in the forum is part of its broader preparations for hosting the Second World Summit for Social Development. The upcoming summit in Doha aims to renew the international commitment to placing the social dimension at the heart of development strategies, while promoting more inclusive, adaptive, and just development models in response to ongoing global transformations.
