AFP Chief Bolsters Defense Ties at Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore

Singapore, The Gulf Observer: Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff, General Romeo Brawner Jr., engaged in a series of high-level meetings with foreign military leaders during the recently concluded Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, reinforcing the country’s commitment to strengthening international defense partnerships.

In a statement released Wednesday, the AFP confirmed Gen. Brawner’s participation in the prestigious regional security summit, held from May 30 to June 1. His engagements were focused on enhancing regional security cooperation, advancing joint defense capabilities, and promoting lasting peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.

“The participation underscored the Philippines’ active role in addressing evolving security challenges alongside allies and strategic partners,” the AFP noted.

Throughout the dialogue, Gen. Brawner held bilateral talks with defense chiefs and senior military officials from various allied and partner nations. Discussions centered on expanding opportunities for joint training, capability-building, and information-sharing initiatives—key components of the AFP’s strategic vision for a resilient and modernized defense force.

“These engagements reaffirmed the AFP’s commitment to fostering strong international defense relations,” the statement added.

The Shangri-La Dialogue, organized annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), serves as a vital platform for defense leaders, policymakers, and experts to deliberate on pressing security issues in the region.
