Iran to Continue Peaceful Nuclear Program Despite U.S. Strikes: Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam, on Sunday reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its nuclear program, despite recent U.S. military strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

Addressing an emergency press conference at the National Press Club in Islamabad, Ambassador Amiri Moghadam emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, including electricity generation and other civilian uses. “The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed the peaceful nature of our nuclear activities on fifteen occasions,” he stated, according to an official press release.

He criticized the timing of the attacks, noting that negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program were ongoing when Israel launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and assassinated prominent Iranian nuclear scientists and military commanders. “Iran responded with missiles developed indigenously,” he added.

Calling the Israeli and U.S. attacks a blatant violation of international law, the ambassador warned that “Israel cannot endure Iranian missile strikes for even ten days.” He further stated, “Iran will respond to the United States in accordance with the United Nations Charter.”

Ambassador Amiri Moghadam expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its condemnation of the attacks on Iranian territory. He also noted that the Iranian nuclear commission is actively assessing the situation in the aftermath of the U.S. strikes to ensure the safety and protection of the Iranian people in any potential emergency.

“We are prepared for a prolonged confrontation under the guidance of our leadership and with the strength of our armed forces,” he asserted. He also clarified that Iran has not requested military support or weapons supplies from any country at this stage.

In response to a media query, the ambassador revealed that drones and other military equipment had been recovered from individuals accused of spying inside Iran, adding that some Iranian nationals were among those arrested in connection with espionage activities.

The press conference marked a strong reiteration of Iran’s resolve to uphold its sovereign right to peaceful nuclear development and its readiness to respond to external threats within the bounds of international law.
