President Tokayev and UN Chief Guterres Inaugurate UN Regional Center for SDGs in Almaty

Almaty, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres visited the UN Regional Center in Almaty, where they participated in a landmark ceremony marking the establishment of a new hub for sustainable development in the region.
According to media reports, the two leaders attended the signing ceremony of the Agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the United Nations on the creation of the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Central Asia and Afghanistan.
The newly established Center is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda across the region by promoting coordinated efforts, sharing best practices, and providing technical and strategic guidance to member countries in achieving the SDGs.
President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations and the principles of multilateralism, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation in addressing common development challenges. Secretary-General Guterres praised Kazakhstan’s leadership in sustainable development and commended the country’s initiative to host the new regional center.
The agreement reflects a deepening partnership between Kazakhstan and the United Nations and underscores their shared vision of building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for the peoples of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
