Iran Warns UN of Grave Threat from Attacks on Peaceful Nuclear Facilities

New York, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has accused the United States and Israel of carrying out deliberate attacks on Iranian nuclear sites that are fully safeguarded under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“These attacks strike at the very heart of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),” Iravani said in an address to the UN on Thursday, during a session marking the International Day Against Nuclear Tests.
He warned that the strikes, which targeted facilities used exclusively for peaceful purposes in line with Article IV of the NPT, constituted a serious violation of international law and posed a direct threat to global peace and security. Iravani also accused Israel of attacking Iranian cities hosting International Monitoring System (IMS) stations, thereby endangering technical personnel and undermining the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) verification regime.
Calling the actions “reckless” and “unlawful,” Iravani urged the international community to unequivocally condemn the attacks, hold the perpetrators accountable, and strengthen legal safeguards to ensure the inviolability of peaceful nuclear facilities.
He stressed that targeting safeguarded nuclear installations undermines the delicate balance of the NPT, in which non-nuclear-weapon states agree to forego nuclear weapons in exchange for the right to peaceful nuclear energy and a commitment by nuclear powers to pursue disarmament.
“The victims of nuclear tests remind us of the high cost of indifference. To remain silent now, in the face of new threats, would be to betray their memory,” Iravani said, urging global unity against all nuclear dangers, whether through tests, threats, or direct attacks.
