Iranian Foreign Minister Urges South Korea to Prevent Tension at UN Security Council

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on South Korea to prevent processes within the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that could heighten tensions, stressing the importance of diplomacy in addressing international challenges.
In a telephone conversation with his South Korean counterpart, Cho Hyun, Araghchi congratulated him on his appointment as Foreign Minister and reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with South Korea across all fields.
Highlighting the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi emphasized that Tehran has consistently regarded diplomacy as the only viable path for resolving international disputes, including nuclear-related issues. He further underlined Iran’s willingness to pursue fair and balanced solutions that ensure mutual interests.
“As President of the Security Council this month, South Korea’s primary duty is to uphold international peace and security. It is therefore expected to prevent processes that lead to increased tensions and instead pave the way for diplomacy,” Araghchi stated.
For his part, Cho Hyun reiterated South Korea’s commitment to adhering to the procedures of the UN Security Council and expressed hope that all parties would continue efforts to achieve a diplomatic resolution.
Both ministers agreed to utilize the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session as an opportunity for a bilateral meeting and further consultations. They also discussed the planned UNSC vote on South Korea’s proposed draft resolution concerning the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
