Pakistan and Tajikistan Hold 6th Session of Bilateral Political Consultations in Dushanbe

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: The 6th Session of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between Pakistan and Tajikistan was held in Dushanbe, focusing on enhancing cooperation across trade, political, and security domains.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Foreign Secretary (West Asia and Afghanistan) Syed Ali Asad Gillani, while the Tajik side was headed by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Farrukh Sharifzoda.

During the consultations, both sides explored avenues to strengthen trade, particularly in textiles, logistics, agriculture and food, and pharmaceuticals. Discussions also encompassed political and parliamentary relations, trade and investment, defence and security, energy, connectivity, cultural and educational exchanges, multilateral cooperation, and consular affairs.

The delegations noted the positive trajectory of bilateral ties and highlighted the role of high-level visits, which have provided renewed momentum to the partnership. They underscored the significance of regional transport corridors and reaffirmed their commitment to the early operationalization of CASA-1000, aimed at promoting regional integration and energy security.

Defence and security cooperation was reviewed, including counter-terrorism efforts, training programs, and exchange visits. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including South Asia and the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and adherence to the UN Charter in resolving conflicts.

The consultations were conducted in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with both sides agreeing to hold the 7th session of BPC in Islamabad in 2026.

During his visit, Additional Secretary Syed Ali Asad Gillani also held meetings with the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and the Director of the Centre for Advanced Training of Diplomats, in addition to visiting the Panj Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and the Commercial Customs Facility at Panji Payon.
