Türkiye

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye on Monday announced the deployment of six F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets and air defense systems to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as part of efforts to enhance the territory’s security in light of rising regional tensions.

In a statement, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said the move forms part of a phased strategy to strengthen the defense capabilities of the TRNC amid recent developments in the region.

“As part of the phased approach to enhancing the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in light of recent developments in our region, six F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft and air defense systems have been deployed to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as of today,” the ministry said.

The ministry added that Ankara may implement further measures depending on how the regional situation evolves, emphasizing that Türkiye will continue monitoring developments closely.

“Additional measures will continue to be taken based on further developments, if deemed necessary,” the statement noted.

The deployment comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which have raised security concerns across the wider region.

Earlier, Greek F-16V fighter jets landed at Paphos Airport in Greek Cyprus on Wednesday, following recent Iranian attacks linked to the escalating regional situation. The developments have increased military activity across the Eastern Mediterranean as regional actors take precautionary steps to strengthen their security posture.
