Azerbaijan Holds Regional Meeting on 2026–2030 Agricultural Development Program in Zangilan

Zangilan, The Gulf Observer: A regional meeting was held on June 12 in the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic region to discuss the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing Sectors in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030, approved by President Ilham Aliyev on May 25, 2026.
The meeting was organized in line with directives issued during a presidential session on agricultural development held on May 25 and aimed to ensure coordinated, efficient, and results-oriented implementation of the measures outlined in the new State Program.
Representatives of relevant government institutions, alongside farmers and entrepreneurs from the districts of Zangilan, Jabrayil, Gubadli, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Khojaly, Khojavend, Shusha, Kalbajar, and Lachin, participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Vahid Hajiyev outlined the agricultural development priorities identified by President Ilham Aliyev and highlighted the key objectives of the new State Program, including increasing productivity, strengthening food security, and supporting local agricultural production.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, reviewed recent achievements and ongoing challenges in the sector while presenting future development goals. He emphasized plans to expand agricultural insurance coverage, develop fisheries and aquaculture, digitalize agricultural services, and advance agroparks and agricultural projects in the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions.
Director of the Agricultural Research Center, Rashad Huseynov, presented the details of the 2026–2030 State Program, noting that it incorporates both fundamental reforms and supporting measures designed to enhance the overall efficiency and sustainability of the agricultural sector.
The importance of sustainable water management was highlighted by Rafig Aslanov, who stressed the need for efficient use of water resources, modern irrigation systems, and improved land reclamation infrastructure. He also reviewed water management initiatives underway in the liberated territories to strengthen agricultural water supply.
Speaking at the event, Emin Huseynov underscored the significant agricultural potential of the liberated territories. He emphasized efforts to build a modern, competitive, and export-oriented agricultural sector through advanced technologies, private-sector investment, agroparks, processing facilities, and improved logistics infrastructure.
Farmers and entrepreneurs attending the meeting shared details of their ongoing projects and future plans, welcoming government support for the agricultural sector. They expressed confidence that the new State Program would help expand production, strengthen existing farms, and enhance the competitiveness of Azerbaijan’s agricultural industry.
Participants emphasized that the successful implementation of the program will require close cooperation among government agencies, farmers, and private-sector stakeholders. They noted that the initiative is expected to boost domestic production, reduce import dependence, enhance food self-sufficiency, and encourage greater private investment in agriculture.
The meeting reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural sector and unlocking the economic potential of the Garabagh and East Zangezur regions through sustainable development and innovation-driven growth.
