Mashhad, The Gulf Observer: Millions of mourners gathered in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad on Thursday as the funeral ceremony for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and several members of his family concluded at the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS), marking the culmination of several days of nationwide mourning.

The funeral procession began at approximately 3:00 p.m. along Imam Reza Street, with large crowds accompanying the vehicle carrying the remains of the late leader and his family members toward the revered shrine.

According to Iranian media, the procession concluded at around 10:00 p.m., when millions of mourners assembled inside and around the Holy Razavi Shrine to offer funeral prayers. The prayers were led by Ayatollah Khamenei’s eldest son, Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mostafa Hosseini Khamenei.

Participants from across Iran attended the ceremony, bringing to a close a series of memorial events held nationwide following the death of the long-serving leader of the Islamic Republic.

During the procession, crowds chanted political slogans, including “Death to America,” “Death to Israel,” and other slogans expressing support for Iran’s political and religious leadership.

Red flags symbolizing vengeance and the call for justice for Imam Hussein (AS), alongside the national flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran, were displayed prominently throughout the procession route.

The funeral in Mashhad marked the final official farewell to Ayatollah Khamenei, drawing one of the largest public gatherings in the country in recent years.
