Azerbaijan, Germany Reaffirm Strategic Partnership During Presidential Talks in Berlin

Berlin, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday reaffirmed the strategic partnership between their countries during expanded talks in Berlin, highlighting growing cooperation in energy, trade, regional connectivity, and international affairs.

Welcoming President Ilham Aliyev, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warmly recalled his previous visit to Azerbaijan and described Azerbaijan and Germany as “islands of stability” amid ongoing global and regional challenges.

President Steinmeier congratulated President Aliyev on the progress made in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process and commended Azerbaijan’s significant contribution to Europe’s energy security.

President Ilham Aliyev also recalled President Steinmeier’s visit to Azerbaijan with appreciation and underlined his country’s expanding role as a reliable energy supplier to Europe, noting that Azerbaijan has now begun exporting natural gas to Germany and Austria in addition to other European countries.

The two leaders emphasized the friendly nature of Azerbaijan-Germany relations and highlighted the substantial potential for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and business. They expressed confidence that President Aliyev’s official visit to Germany would provide fresh momentum to the further development of bilateral ties.

Underscoring the strategic character of relations between the two countries, the presidents stressed the importance of the Joint Declaration on the Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Germany, which is scheduled to be signed by President Ilham Aliyev and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The discussions also focused on Azerbaijan’s growing partnership with the European Union. The two leaders recalled the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Baku and noted the continued expansion of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation.

In addition, President Aliyev and President Steinmeier exchanged views on the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, recognizing Azerbaijan’s key role in the development of the transcontinental transport route, and discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East along with other regional issues of mutual concern.
