Oman, Japan Reaffirm Commitment to Bilateral Cooperation and Maritime Security

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi received Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations and regional and international developments.

The ministers reviewed the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Oman and Japan and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties across political, economic and cultural fields. They underscored the importance of continued political dialogue and regular exchanges of views on issues of mutual interest.

The two foreign ministers also discussed regional and international developments, with particular focus on efforts to de-escalate tensions and create conditions conducive to peaceful solutions to regional challenges.

They emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom and safety of maritime navigation through the strategically important Straits of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab, in accordance with international law, in order to protect international trade and contribute to the stability of global supply chains.

The ministers discussed ways to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation between Oman and Japan, including by encouraging partnerships between public and private sector institutions in both countries.

They also explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the oil and liquefied natural gas sectors and broaden collaboration into renewable energy, hydrogen and ammonia.

In addition, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in tourism, transport, environmental protection, technology, maritime security, food security and education.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Hosni, Head of the Asia and Pacific Department at Oman’s Foreign Ministry; Japan’s Ambassador to Oman Kiyoshi Serizawa; and officials from both countries.
