UN regional office opens in Tashkent
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the Head of UNESCO Tashkent Office, Sara Noshadi.
According to the Ministry, the parties discussed the issue of strengthening cooperation in environmental education and natural resource management.
During the dialogue, the need was noted for a phased transition to a green economy, introducing a digitalization system, environmental education, and culture, increasing the potential of personnel and specialists, and applying foreign experience in this process.
It was emphasized that the preparation of a national report on the state of the environment and the use of natural resources, as well as the compilation of a national list of ecological and natural heritage, is of great importance. A proposal was also made to open a UN Regional Climate Change Office in Tashkent.
Issues of developing an innovative project “Aral Cultural Heritage Park” in the Aral Sea region, creating centers for visitors to cultural heritage sites, and developing strategically essential programs to prevent climate change were discussed. It was emphasized that consistent work in environmental education is an important mechanism that strengthens existing ties.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on holding the Fourteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14) in October this year in Samarkand.
