10th World Water Forum in Bali

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In an official announcement on Tuesday, Indonesia’s Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, extended a warm invitation to Tunisia and other Mediterranean countries to participate in the upcoming 10th World Water Forum scheduled to take place in Bali in May 2024.

Highlighting the vital role that Tunisia and other Mediterranean nations play in regional water management processes, Minister Hadimuljono expressed his appreciation for their significant contributions to the global initiative. His remarks were made during the ongoing 5th Mediterranean Water Forum in Tunis, Tunisia, which is being held from February 5–7, 2024.

Minister Hadimuljono acknowledged the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum as a crucial precursor to the 10th World Water Forum and emphasized its importance as a platform for discussions aimed at enhancing water sustainability.

“Starting from the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, we expect the 10th World Water Forum next May to be an appropriate forum to share knowledge and experience in managing water resources and to reaffirm the commitment to the global water community,” he stated.

The minister revealed that his ministry, in collaboration with the World Water Council, is currently in the final stages of preparing the Ministerial Declaration for the World Water Forum. This declaration, having passed the first preparatory meeting in Paris last January, outlines six sub-themes: water security and prosperity; water for humans and nature; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydro-diplomacy; sustainable water finance, and knowledge and innovation.

“This declaration aims to set a commitment on concrete actions and innovative solutions related to the Tunis Declaration that we have agreed upon at the Mediterranean Water Forum today,” Hadimuljono explained.

Expressing gratitude to the Tunisian government for their support, Minister Hadimuljono affirmed Indonesia’s openness to receiving inputs from the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, particularly concerning the Tunis Declaration. These inputs will be considered to refine the first draft of the ministerial declaration, which will be further deliberated during the second preparatory meeting scheduled for March 28–29 in Paris.

As Indonesia prepares to host the 10th World Water Forum, Minister Hadimuljono conveyed his appreciation for the support extended by the Tunisian government and expressed optimism about the collective efforts of nations in addressing global water challenges.
