President Widodo Urges Strengthening of Indonesian Air Force
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, has emphasized the need for the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) to enhance its capabilities in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. This directive was articulated by Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono following his inauguration.
Marshal Harjono conveyed President Jokowi’s vision for a robust and capable Air Force during his inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The emphasis, he clarified, is not to intimidate neighboring nations or incite conflict but to maintain regional stability, security, and peace.
“A strong Air Force means it can maintain regional stability, security, and peace,” Marshal Harjono reiterated, underscoring the importance of the Air Force’s role in upholding Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Harjono affirmed his commitment to continuing the policies initiated by his predecessors while also evaluating ongoing activities for their efficacy. He highlighted President Jokowi’s emphasis on aligning the Air Force’s actions with the mandates outlined in Law No. 34 of 2004 on TNI, which delineates the responsibilities of the Indonesian Armed Forces, including the Air Force, in safeguarding the nation’s aerial sovereignty, enforcing laws, and upholding national and international regulations governing aerial jurisdiction.
In accordance with these mandates, Harjono outlined key objectives for the Indonesian Air Force, including the development of capabilities and the reinforcement of aerial potential to meet contemporary security challenges.
Assuming the mantle of leadership as the 24th Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, Harjono expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the president. He called upon the Indonesian people to extend their support and prayers as he undertakes this significant responsibility.
President Jokowi’s decision to appoint Marshal Harjono as the new Air Force Chief of Staff was formalized through Presidential Decision No. 20/TNI/2024, signifying the government’s commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s defense capabilities and ensuring national security.
As Marshal Harjono assumes his new role, expectations are high for the Indonesian Air Force to continue its mission of safeguarding the nation’s interests and contributing to regional peace and stability under his leadership.
