Saudi Arabia Condemns Israeli Attacks on Rafah

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabia condemned the recent Israeli attacks on Rafah, particularly the targeting of tents housing displaced Palestinians near the UNRWA warehouses, which resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people, predominantly women and children. The Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the social media platform X, denouncing the blatant violations of international and humanitarian laws by the Israeli occupation forces.
The ministry’s statement emphasized the Kingdom’s rejection of these actions and called on the international community to intervene immediately to halt the violence. According to Palestinian health officials, the Israeli airstrikes on Sunday not only killed at least 40 people but also trapped numerous others in the flaming debris in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that women and children comprised most of the casualties, with dozens more wounded.
These attacks occurred just two days after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to cease its military offensive in Rafah, where over half of Gaza’s population had sought refuge prior to Israel’s incursion earlier this month. Tens of thousands remain in the area, while many others have fled. Footage from the scene of the largest airstrike revealed significant destruction.
Israel’s army confirmed the strike, stating it targeted a Hamas installation and resulted in the deaths of two senior Hamas militants. The army also indicated that it was investigating reports of civilian casualties. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited Rafah on Sunday and received briefings on the ongoing operations in the area, according to his office.
Saudi Arabia’s call for international intervention underscores the urgent need for a resolution to the escalating conflict and the protection of civilians in the region.
