Bahrain Expresses Regret Over UN Security Council’s Decision on Palestinian State Membership

Bahrain

Manama, The Gulf Observer: The Kingdom of Bahrain has expressed regret over the UN Security Council’s failure to adopt a draft resolution endorsing the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations. This comes in light of the ongoing suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people due to occupation, continued conflict, and dire humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bahrain affirmed that achieving international recognition of the Palestinian State and its full UN membership is both a legal and political right. This right is inherent to the Palestinian people’s historical aspirations to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the principles of the two-state solution. Bahrain reiterated its support for this goal in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.

The statement underscored that advancing the Palestinian State’s full membership in the UN is an essential step towards realizing a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the region. Bahrain emphasized the importance of fostering freedom, justice, prosperity, security, and peaceful coexistence among all peoples in the region. The kingdom remains committed to supporting efforts that promote stability and peace in the Middle East.
