Bangkok, The Gulf Observer: China’s senior diplomat, Wang Yi, emphasized the importance of the one-China principle and the commitments outlined in the three China-U.S. joint communiques during a new round of talks with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, held discussions with Sullivan in an effort to underscore China’s position on key diplomatic matters.

Wang Yi urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle, a fundamental cornerstone of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. He emphasized the significance of respecting the three China-U.S. joint communiques, which have played a crucial role in guiding bilateral relations over the years.

Furthermore, Wang Yi called upon the U.S. to translate its commitment not to support “Taiwan independence” into concrete actions. He stressed the importance of supporting the peaceful reunification of China, echoing a longstanding principle upheld by the Chinese government.

The talks, held from Friday to Saturday, provided an opportunity for both sides to engage in diplomatic dialogue and address key issues that impact the bilateral relationship. The discussions underscored the need for adherence to established diplomatic principles to maintain stability and foster mutual understanding.

The one-China principle, enshrined in diplomatic agreements, underscores the indivisibility of China and Taiwan. China considers Taiwan an integral part of its territory and opposes any attempts to support or advocate for Taiwan’s independence.

The outcome of the talks is anticipated to have implications for the ongoing diplomatic relations between China and the United States, emphasizing the need for both nations to navigate sensitive issues with respect for established principles and mutual interests.
