Embassy of Tajikistan in Pakistan Commemorates 29th National Unity Day with Solemn Ceremony
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan hosted a solemn ceremony on Saturday to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the National Unity Day of the Republic of Tajikistan, bringing together members of the Tajik community residing in Pakistan to celebrate one of the country’s most significant national occasions.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the participants and highlighted the historical significance and enduring value of National Unity Day.
The Ambassador noted that the signing of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord on June 27, 1997, marked a defining moment in the history of modern Tajikistan. He said the agreement laid a solid foundation for restoring peace and stability, strengthening state institutions, promoting national unity, and ensuring the country’s sustainable development.
Ambassador Sharifzoda paid tribute to the historic role of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation and President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, in restoring peace and consolidating national unity. He emphasized that President Rahmon’s visionary leadership, unwavering political will, and consistent efforts enabled Tajikistan to overcome the consequences of civil conflict and embark on a path of peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Describing National Unity as one of the greatest achievements of Tajikistan’s independence, the Ambassador stressed that preserving and strengthening unity remains the sacred responsibility of every citizen. He also encouraged Tajik compatriots living abroad to contribute to enhancing the country’s international image by demonstrating patriotism, respect for national values, and commitment to safeguarding the reputation of their homeland.
The Ambassador further highlighted the recent adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution entitled “International Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036),” initiated by the Republic of Tajikistan. He stated that the initiative reflects the international community’s recognition of Tajikistan as a peace-loving nation and an active advocate of the global peace agenda. He added that Tajikistan’s successful experience in achieving peace and national unity serves as an important example for the international community and reinforces the country’s growing prestige on the global stage.
Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Sharifzoda called upon participants to cherish peace and stability, strengthen national unity, uphold the values of statehood, and contribute to the continued development and prosperity of an independent Tajikistan.
The event also featured the screening of a documentary highlighting Tajikistan’s peacebuilding journey, the achievements of National Unity, and the pivotal role of the Leader of the Nation in consolidating peace and stability. The documentary drew keen interest from attendees and underscored the importance of preserving peace and national unity for the country’s future development.
The ceremony continued with a cultural programme held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, where participants exchanged views on Tajikistan’s achievements since independence and reflected on the enduring significance of National Unity.
