Field Marshal Asim Munir Concludes Iran Visit Amid Progress in Regional Mediation Efforts

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Syed Asim Munir concluded a “highly productive” official visit to Iran that resulted in “encouraging progress” towards achieving a final understanding on a framework for a potential agreement with the United States, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.

The military’s media wing stated that the visit formed part of ongoing diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at promoting de-escalation and constructive engagement amid regional tensions that persisted following the April 8, 2026 ceasefire.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir held high-level meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

According to the ISPR statement, discussions focused on accelerating the consultative process aimed at supporting regional peace and stability and reaching a conclusive agreement through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

“The discussions remained focused upon expediting the consultative process underway to support peace and stability in the region and to reach a conclusive agreement,” the statement said.

The ISPR further noted that the talks were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere and contributed significantly to the broader mediation process.

“The intensive negotiations over the last twenty-four hours have resulted in encouraging progress towards a final understanding,” the statement added.

The Iranian leadership also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue and supporting peaceful solutions to regional issues.

Earlier upon his arrival in Tehran, Field Marshal Asim Munir was received by Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with senior Iranian civil and military officials.
