Geological sector needs new impetus: President Tokayev
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with honored workers of the country’s geological sector – academician of the National Academy of Sciences Serikbek Daukeev, president of Meridian Petroleum Baltabek Kuandykov, director of the Satbayev Institute of Geological Sciences Geroi Zholtayev, and president of the Academy of Mineral Resources public association Bulat Uzhkenov, according to the reports of Akorda.
During the meeting, the President pointed out that the geological sector is the foundation for the progressive development of the subsoil use sector and an integral part of the country’s economy.
According to him, the sector needs a new impetus, especially in terms of geological exploration and comprehensive survey of subsoil. Therefore, the task was set before the government to bring the area of geological and geophysical investigation to 2.2mln sq. km. by 2026 in the latest state-of-the-nation address.
As the Kazakh President said, comprehensive measures are taken to attract foreign investors, capital and modern technologies in geological surveying. At the same time, it is necessary to strike a balance between the openness of the geological sphere for investment and ensuring the state’s interests.
The meeting also discussed the current issues in the geological sector as well as the proposals to stimulate it.
In conclusion, Tokayev expressed gratitude to the veterans for their huge contribution to the development of domestic geology.
