His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Graces Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2025 Ceremony in Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan, The Gulf Observer: His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and Patron of The Crown Prince CIPTA Award, graciously attended the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2025 Ceremony on Wednesday.

The prestigious event was held at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas. Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was warmly received by the Minister of Development and Deputy Chair of the UTB Council, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, UTB Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, Mr. Adeleye Falade.

In her address, Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah, Chairperson of the CIPTA 2025 Executive Committee, highlighted the competition’s success in advancing innovation, encouraging research-driven ideas, and nurturing creativity among participants. She emphasised the need to move beyond conceptual excellence by enhancing the commercialisation potential of the innovations presented, underlining the importance of translating promising inventions into tangible, high-impact outcomes.

A multimedia presentation followed, reflecting on the two-decade journey, achievements, and milestones of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award. Subsequently, Head of the Technical Committee, Pengiran Dr. Rafidah binti Pengiran Haji Petra, delivered a comprehensive summary of the judges’ appraisal.

This year, CIPTA 2025 introduced a new recognition — the Special Award for Sustainable Energy — underscoring the competition’s dedication to environmental innovation and green technology solutions. This special award honours exceptional projects that demonstrate innovation in sustainable energy applications, renewable technologies, or energy efficiency solutions.

His Royal Highness presented trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes to the winners across various categories, including the Local Categories, Smart Junior Competition, and ASEAN Categories.

A highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of the prestigious Grand Prize — The Crown Prince Special Award 2025 — to Dr. Law Kah Haw and Mohammad Asri bin Puasa from UTB for their groundbreaking innovation titled “Novel Filter-Less Single-Source Extendable Switched-Capacitor Boost Multilevel Inverter Suitable for Renewable and Industrial Applications.”

The CIPTA Award continues to serve as a catalyst for innovation and technological excellence in Brunei and the wider region, fostering a spirit of creativity, sustainable development, and collaboration among aspiring inventors and researchers.
