Indonesia needs big, technical strategy like PPHN: Jokowi
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) underscored the need for Indonesia to have a grand and technical strategy for which the form can be based on the state policy guidelines (PPHN).
“We must have a big strategy and technical strategy like the PPHN to achieve our vision,” he remarked at the commemoration of Constitution Day and the 78th Anniversary of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliamentary Complex here on Friday.
The president stated that the nation’s grand vision must have exact standards or measures, and hence, a grand guideline is needed.
However, the head of state emphasized that the guidelines should not be rigid, as the world is moving at a fast pace, so challenges and opportunities also change dynamically.
“Flexibility is very important. Do not make too many rules or ‘set traps’ that we make ourselves that do not allow us to move. Give freedom to the executive (branch of the government) to be agile in facing change and uncertainty,” he explained.
He affirmed that flexibility in rules and policies should be accompanied by effective supervision.
The president explained that the rules and policies must be flexible, so that the nation can move quickly in making the most of opportunities to win global competitions.
“(It is) because in this era of competition, we must be better than other countries. We cannot just look at ourselves or feel content. This is dangerous. We have to be able to look right and left,” he stressed.
According to Jokowi, Indonesia must continue to strive to be better than its competitors by formulating adaptive and better policies.
Furthermore, the president noted that PPHN is important in providing guidelines and points of direction for making policies.
“I emphasize that PPHN, like the MPR Speaker said before, gives flexibility to the executive branch, as its content is philosophical rather than detailed,” he remarked.
