Indonesia Prioritizes Workforce Quality to Meet Digital Era Demands

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian government is prioritizing the improvement of human resources as part of its strategy to develop the employment sector, Minister of Manpower Yassierli announced on Sunday.

In a statement, Yassierli emphasized that enhancing workforce quality is essential for creating a competitive labor force in the digital era, addressing key challenges such as low education levels and insufficient digital skills.

“Indonesia’s human capital index and digital skills currently lag behind other ASEAN countries,” Yassierli noted, highlighting the urgency for transformation in the employment sector.

To address these gaps, the government is accelerating workforce development through targeted training programs aligned with global industry demands, including sectors like green jobs, medical technology, and the digital economy.

“Upskilling and reskilling are critical to our strategy, and we are collaborating with educational institutions and industry-based training programs to achieve this,” Yassierli stated. He stressed the importance of aligning workforce skills with advancements in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and renewable energy.

As part of these efforts, the government has introduced 3,320 vocational training programs in 2024, focusing on equipping workers with the skills needed to compete in the global job market. Additionally, the expansion of competency certifications tailored to industry requirements is underway.

Yassierli expressed confidence that inclusive policies and cross-sector collaboration will enable Indonesia to develop a high-quality workforce capable of meeting global challenges and seizing opportunities in the evolving digital and green economies.
