Iran’s FM Araghchi Meets UN Chief Guterres Ahead of Disarmament Conference in Geneva

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of a high-level disarmament conference in Geneva, Switzerland, discussing pressing global issues and the necessity of international cooperation to address ongoing threats to peace and security.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the meeting took place ahead of Araghchi’s scheduled speech at the 2025 Conference on Disarmament High-level Segment. Guterres is set to deliver opening remarks at the European headquarters of the United Nations later on Monday.

In addition to his participation in the disarmament conference, Araghchi is also scheduled to address the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, where he is expected to outline Iran’s positions on key human rights matters.

Araghchi’s visit to Geneva follows his trip to Beirut, where he and other Iranian officials attended the funeral ceremony for Hezbollah leaders Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Saffieddine. The Iranian foreign minister departed for Switzerland on Sunday evening after concluding his engagements in Lebanon.

The discussions between Araghchi and Guterres highlight Iran’s diplomatic engagement in multilateral forums and underline Tehran’s commitment to addressing global security challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
