Iran’s Participation in Next Round of U.S. Talks Uncertain Amid Escalating Tensions

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Tehran’s participation in the upcoming round of indirect negotiations with the United States remains uncertain, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced, as regional tensions intensify.

Speaking to IRIB regarding Iran’s potential involvement in the sixth round of talks scheduled to be held in Muscat, Baqaei expressed serious concerns over recent developments in the region. He stated that “it is inconceivable for Iran to imagine the Israeli regime committing such warmongering without U.S. coordination or deliberate approval.”

Baqaei criticized the opposing side for actions that, in Iran’s view, have rendered the negotiation process meaningless. “We hold the U.S. administration responsible for the consequences of this reckless and illegal action by the Israeli regime,” he added.

The indirect negotiations, mediated by Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi, have thus far taken place in five rounds — three in Muscat and two in Rome. On June 10, Baqaei had announced that the next round of Iran–U.S. talks was planned for June 15 in Muscat, with Oman continuing its role as facilitator.

However, amid the current diplomatic climate and regional instability, Iran’s final decision on attending the session remains unresolved.
