Kazakhstan and Russia Reaffirm Strategic Partnership in High-Level Talks in Moscow

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where both leaders discussed a broad range of issues on the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed the steady development of relations between the two countries.

According to the press service of Akorda, President Tokayev expressed gratitude for the traditionally warm welcome and extended congratulations to President Putin and the people of Russia on the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory. He noted the historical significance of the occasion, paying tribute to the sacrifices made during World War II and honoring veterans who remain a living link to that period.

He emphasized that only 57 frontline veterans are still alive in Kazakhstan, underlining the importance of preserving historical memory and respecting their legacy. The Kazakh leader described Victory Day as a solemn occasion marked by both remembrance and reflection on the consequences of war.

During the talks, President Tokayev highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral cooperation, noting that relations between Kazakhstan and Russia are developing dynamically across all key sectors. He stated that intensive preparations are underway for President Putin’s upcoming state visit to Kazakhstan, expected at the end of May.

Tokayev further noted that Russia remains one of the leading investors in Kazakhstan’s economy over the past five years, with trade ties showing strong growth. He expressed confidence that bilateral trade would surpass US$30 billion by the end of the year, describing it as a significant milestone in economic cooperation.

The Kazakh President also highlighted expanding humanitarian cooperation, particularly in education, citing the active operation of “Sirius” schools in cities such as Almaty and Astana. He added that tourism has become an important indicator of growing people-to-people contacts, noting that Russia ranked first in tourist arrivals to Kazakhstan in 2025.

Expressing optimism, President Tokayev said he was confident that the upcoming Supreme Eurasian Economic Council summit in Astana would be successful, and that the Russian President’s state visit would mark a major political and historical milestone in bilateral relations.

For his part, President Putin praised Tokayev’s personal contribution to strengthening Kazakhstan–Russia relations, describing the current period as a reflection of deep mutual trust and close cooperation between the two countries.

He also noted the symbolic importance of the Victory Day period, stating that Tokayev’s presence in Moscow demonstrated the high level of strategic partnership between the two states.

The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, reaffirming their commitment to continued coordination on shared priorities.
