Morocco, France Deepen Defense Cooperation Through High-Level Military Talks in Paris

Paris, The Gulf Observer: Morocco and France have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation following high-level talks between General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, and General Fabien Mandon in Paris on Thursday.
The meeting took place during General Berrid’s official working visit to France and reflected the growing momentum in military and strategic cooperation between the two countries. Discussions focused on enhancing defense ties, strengthening military coordination, and advancing shared security objectives.
Following the talks, General Mandon underscored the strength of the longstanding military partnership between Morocco and France. In a message posted on X, he described the bilateral relationship as one built over time and firmly oriented toward the future.
Thursday’s meeting marked the third official encounter between the two military leaders. They previously met in September 2025 during General Mandon’s formal presentation as France’s top military officer and again in December 2025 when General Berrid was awarded the prestigious Legion of Honour.
The discussions come amid intensified defense diplomacy between Rabat and Paris. Earlier this month, Moroccan Minister Delegate in charge of National Defense Administration Abdellatif Loudiyi met in Paris with French Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Catherine Vautrin, underscoring the sustained high-level engagement between the two nations in defense and security matters.
General Berrid’s visit also coincided with the ongoing Eurosatory 2026, one of the world’s leading defense and security exhibitions, which is being held in Paris from June 15 to 19. The event has brought together military leaders, defense industry representatives, and security experts from around the world to discuss emerging challenges and technological developments in the sector.
The latest round of talks comes as Morocco and France prepare for a high-level bilateral meeting scheduled to take place in Rabat next month, aimed at further expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including defense and security.
Defense relations between the two countries have gained additional momentum since July 2025, when France’s Directorate General of Armaments established a joint armaments committee with Morocco. The initiative seeks to deepen defense-industrial cooperation and support the development of Morocco’s Defense Industrial and Technological Base (DITB).
Observers view the continued high-level exchanges as evidence of the strengthening strategic partnership between Rabat and Paris, particularly at a time of evolving regional and international security challenges. The latest meeting highlighted both countries’ determination to expand military collaboration, enhance defense capabilities, and reinforce long-term strategic coordination.
