Nukus celebrates International Taekwondo Day
Nukus, The Gulf Observer: A Taekwondo Festival was organized on the central square of the city of Nukus in connection with September 4 – International Taekwondo Day. It was attended by about 500 young, gifted athletes and coaches.
At the festival’s opening ceremony, it was emphasized that in recent years, Uzbekistan has paid particular attention to the development of sports, particularly the wide popularization of taekwondo (WT) among young people.
Based on the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On measures for further developing taekwondo (WT)” of July 29, 2022, several events are being carried out to popularize this sport among the population, identify, select, and sort talented athletes, create a new system of their professional preparation. About 1,500 boys and girls improve their skills under the guidance of 50 qualified coaches in taekwondo (WT) sports clubs operating in cities and regions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
In the past 2022/2023 academic year, young taekwondo athletes won more than 120 gold, silver, and bronze medals at the championship of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the championship of Uzbekistan, and international competitions.
The festival continued with classes with the participation of coaches and athletes and demonstration performances in the martial art of taekwondo.
