Oman Introduces Free 14-Day Tourist Visa to Boost Travel and Tourism
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Oman has introduced a new 14-day tourist visa as part of amendments to the Executive Regulations of the Foreign Residence Law, a move aimed at providing greater flexibility for international visitors and strengthening the Sultanate’s tourism sector.
The amendments were issued through a decision by Lt. Gen. Hassan bin Mohsin Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, pursuant to the Foreign Residence Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 16/95, its Executive Regulations, the approval of the Ministry of Finance, and in consideration of the public interest.
The decision was published in Official Gazette No. 1659 on August 2, 2026, and takes effect from the day following its publication.
Under the revised regulations, a new provision has been added to Article 10, allowing the competent authorities to issue a 14-day tourist visa to nationals of countries designated by the authorities upon application and in accordance with conditions set by the government.
The amendments also provide greater flexibility for visitors by permitting holders of the new 14-day visa to convert it, before its expiry, into any other tourist visa category available under the regulations, provided they meet the relevant requirements and pay the applicable fees.
Additionally, the revised schedule of entry visa fees under Article 29 formally introduces the 14-day tourist visa as a separate visa category offered free of charge, making it easier and more affordable for eligible travellers to visit Oman.
The new visa measure is expected to support Oman’s efforts to attract more international tourists by simplifying entry procedures and offering greater convenience for short-term visitors while reinforcing the country’s broader tourism development strategy.
