PETRONAS Eyes Participation in Turkmenistan Gas Projects

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysia’s national oil and gas company PETRONAS is exploring opportunities to participate in prospective natural gas projects in Turkmenistan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, according to reporting by Bloomberg.
Speaking at a Pakatan Harapan coalition event held on Saturday in the lead-up to the 16th Johor state elections, Anwar said a Malaysian delegation is expected to visit Turkmenistan in mid-June to discuss further expansion of cooperation in the energy sector. He added that he is prepared to take part in the negotiations.
According to the Prime Minister, engagement with Turkmenistan could create new opportunities for PETRONAS in one of the world’s largest natural gas-producing regions. He stressed that strengthening energy ties would support Malaysia’s long-term energy security interests and enhance its position in the global energy market.
Turkmenistan, which possesses some of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, has been actively seeking to expand international partnerships in its energy sector and attract foreign investment for major gas development projects.
