Prime Minister Chính Hosts Reception for Ericsson CEO Borje Ekholm

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính welcomed Borje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, on Monday during his working visit to Vietnam. The meeting underscored the positive trajectory of Vietnam-Sweden relations, particularly in politics, diplomacy, development assistance, and trade.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the growing bilateral ties, highlighting the potential of Ericsson in capital, technology, and advanced management practices. He conveyed his confidence that Ekholm’s visit would provide the company with a comprehensive understanding of the Vietnamese market, laying the groundwork for future investment and business decisions.

Ekholm, who has led Ericsson in its global leadership of 5G technology deployment, reaffirmed the company’s ongoing commitment to Vietnam’s telecommunications industry. Operating in Vietnam since 1993, Ericsson has been a key partner to local telecom operators and plays a significant role in the nation’s 5G network development. Ekholm emphasized the company’s desire to contribute to Vietnam’s national digital transformation and support the research and development of new technologies within the country.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Chính praised Ericsson’s contributions to digital infrastructure development in Việt Nam, particularly in advancing national digital transformation and building the e-government. He reiterated that Việt Nam views digital transformation as a strategic priority and a new growth engine for the country.

Chính urged the company to enhance its cooperation with Việt Nam by focusing on establishing research and development (R&D) centers, accelerating technology transfers, and advancing the development of digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and next-generation networks such as 5G and 6G. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of training human resources, policy consultation, and helping Vietnamese businesses integrate into global supply chains.

The Prime Minister also outlined Vietnam’s ambition to explore outer space, underground space, and marine space, encouraging innovation and integration within the country. He reiterated that Vietnam is eager to engage in strategic, long-term cooperation with Ericsson.

To support the acceleration of digital transformation, the Vietnamese Government is implementing breakthrough programs and policies. These include the completion of legal frameworks to remove barriers, significant investments in digital infrastructure, and a focus on developing human resources for the digital sector.

Ekholm expressed Ericsson’s confidence in Vietnam’s trajectory, stressing the importance of the Vietnamese market for the company. He reaffirmed Ericsson’s commitment to expanding its presence in Vietnam, including the establishment of an R&D center aimed at creating new solutions and export opportunities. With a skilled workforce and a growing digital economy, Vietnam presents significant opportunities for the company’s long-term growth.
