Baku, The Gulf Observer: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia and Azerbaijan are engaged in negotiations across several specific areas of cooperation, with the energy sector being a primary focus of the ongoing discussions.

Speaking in response to a question from AZERTAC Chairman of the Board Vugar Aliyev during a meeting with representatives of international news agencies on the sidelines of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between the two countries.

“We have negotiations underway in a number of specific areas. It is still premature to speak about this. This concerns the energy sector first and foremost,” the Russian president said.

Putin also announced plans to meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the near future, noting that the issues under discussion would be addressed during their talks.

“I will meet with President Aliyev, and we will certainly discuss all of this,” he added.

The Russian leader emphasized that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan continue to develop constructively and are progressing in a positive direction.

His remarks underscore the importance both countries attach to expanding cooperation in strategic sectors, particularly energy, while maintaining regular high-level dialogue on bilateral and regional issues.
