Saudi Green Building Forum to Represent Kingdom at UN Climate Change Conference in Brazil

Brazil

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: The Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) will participate in the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

The forum’s participation underscores its role as a national institution holding consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and accreditation from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It also highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing contribution to global sustainability efforts, in line with the goals of Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing green transformation.

This year, the forum will promote the principle of “Sufficiency Before Efficiency” in climate policy, emphasizing the need to reduce resource demand at its source before improving efficiency. The approach aims to promote climate justice and balance economic progress with environmental preservation.

Faisal Al-Fadl, Secretary-General of the Saudi Green Building Forum, explained that the concept of sufficiency marks a shift in sustainable development thinking. “Sufficiency does not mean limiting development; it means achieving a balance between human needs and the planet’s capacity to provide resources, ensuring social equity and environmental protection,” he stated.

During the conference, the SGBF will strengthen international cooperation to develop sufficiency indicators and policies in coordination with partner countries, international organizations, and both public- and private-sector stakeholders. These efforts are expected to contribute to the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Saudi Green Building Forum is a prominent nongovernmental organization in the Arab world working with municipalities and housing authorities on environmental development, climate monitoring, combating desertification, and enhancing biodiversity through the Saaf framework. It continues to promote the localization of green building practices and the circular economy across the Arab region, inspired by Saudi Arabia’s sustainability initiatives and green transition strategies.
